A well-designed trial tested hydrogen water against placebo in Parkinson's disease — and it didn't work. The failures matter as much as the successes, so here's one in full.

## Why we read independent research first — and why you should too

Most mainstream medical research is paid for by someone with a product to protect. When the funder profits from the result, the science bends — not usually through outright fraud, but through the quiet pressures of study design, selective publication and the way results are emphasised. Decades of meta-research confirm it: industry-funded trials reach favourable conclusions several times more often than independently funded ones.

The cost of letting that bias run is not theoretical. Pain medicines once declared “safe” helped drive an overdose crisis that has killed hundreds of thousands. A blockbuster arthritis drug stayed on the shelves for years after its manufacturer saw the heart-attack signal mounting. Real products, real profits, real harm — documented in court records, not guessed at.

- **Small independent labs have no ioniser, pill or patent to defend.** Their incentive is to find the truth and publish it — not to please a shareholder.
- **The studies above come from exactly that kind of lab.** We have labelled each one's size and type honestly, included the disappointments, and linked every source.
- **Read preliminary work as preliminary.** An honest pilot study is not a sales pitch — and a sales pitch dressed up as science is not a study.

This is water, not medicine. We believe in honest inquiry pursued in good conscience: follow the evidence — and follow who paid for it.

Good science publishes its disappointments, not just its wins. If we only ever showed you positive studies, we'd be doing marketing, not honesty. So here is a rigorous trial where hydrogen water simply didn't deliver.

## What the trial did

Researchers ran a **double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled** trial — the gold standard — testing hydrogen-rich water against placebo water in people with Parkinson's disease, over many months, using standard clinical rating scales to measure change.

## What they found

The trial **did not meet its primary endpoint**. Hydrogen water did not significantly outperform placebo. An earlier, much smaller pilot had hinted at a benefit; the larger, more rigorous trial did not confirm it.

> This is how science is supposed to work: a promising early signal, put to a proper test, that doesn't hold up. The rigorous result overrules the hopeful one.

## The honest take

We include this study deliberately. Hydrogen water is **not** a treatment for Parkinson's disease, or for any other illness — and a strong, well-run trial says so directly. Anyone who points to the small early pilot while ignoring the larger negative trial is telling you half the story. Kangen Water® is drinking water; it is not a medicine, and there are no authorised EU health claims for it.
